Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. Lyrics

Send "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." Ringtone to your Cell

I can hear the soft breathing
Of the girl that I love,
As she lies here beside me
Asleep with the night,
And her hair, in a fine mist
Floats on my pillow,
Reflecting the glow
Of the winter moonlight.

She is soft, she is warm,
But my heart remains heavy,
And I watch as her breasts
Gently rise, gently fall,
For I know with the first light of dawn
I'll be leaving,
And tonight will be
All I have left to recall.

Oh, what have I done,
Why have I done it,
I've committed a crime,
I've broken the law.
For twenty-five dollars
And pieces of silver,
I held up and robbed
A hard liquor store.

My life seems unreal,
My crime an illusion,
A scene badly written
In which I must play.
Yet I know as I gaze
At my young love beside me,
The morning is just a few hours away.

yeah im with zylinder. i know theres more to the song than robbing a liquor store for $25, but idk what it is. so id also appreciate it if somebody helped us out here. but perhaps you could ask your dad zylinder?
this is such an awesome song... creates a really vivid image. i reckon it happens alot, minus the holding up and robbing a liquor store part of course.

When I first heard this song I laughed because it seemed ridiculous to hold up a liquor store for such a small amount of money. My dad gave me a dirty look and said that I should listen to the lyrics and then I'd know what it was supposed to mean. I still don't really get it. Can anyone tell me what its supposed to mean?
I really like the line "..twenty-five dollars and pieces of silver". Bible referances always float my boat. I think its because I know the bible better than a lot of other literature that people like to quote. I read a lot, but I haven't been around long enough to have read all the classics yet!
Now I'm getting off topic. If anyone can answer my question I'd really appreciate it.
