High Hopes Lyrics
Send "High Hopes" Ringtone to your Cell
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the Long Road and on down the Causeway
Do they still meet there by the Cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before times took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
When friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some sleeping tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfurled
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever

High Hopes
The Title says a lot. It does not insinuate the past. â??Like remembering the good old days.â?? Its encourages the present and inspires the future.
Itâ??s about What was What is and Whatâ??s to be.
(WHAT WAS) Magnets, Miracles, (With out Boundaries)
That was our beginning, our potential what wasâ?¦.
The Division Bell is the start of the spiritual battle.
(WHAT IS) Ragged Band that followed in our footsteps, Took our dreams away
Steps taken forward but sleep walking back again.
Are you really free? Or Comfortable Numbâ?¦.
(Whatâ??s to be)
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
Thereâ??s a hunger still unsatisfied.
This just will not doâ?¦.
Can you see past The Wall?
(Who)
Dragged by the force of some sleeping tide
ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Us.

This song really talks to me, the first time I really heard it (and paid attention) was when I did a coast-to-coast move 2 years ago, it made me sad because I was going to be leaving my friends and I'd probably never see them again because I moved from B.C. to Nova Scotia (in canada for the people who obviously can't figure this out)and I can't get in contact with them. I sang this to myself the entire drive there, this, and wish you were here.
Just imagine leaving most of your life behind, driving across the country, and hearing the first few lines of this.
"Do they still meet there by the cut?"
"Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us, to a glimpse of how green it was on the other side, steps taken forwards, and sleepwalking back again, dragged by the force of some inner tide"
"The grass was greener, the light was brighter, with friends surrounded, the nights of wonder"
I'm gonna stop there 'cause I'm getting emotional and that's not something I do an awful lot.

What amazes me about the comments that were posted is this....alot of people can't seem to figure out what this song is about! What's so hard to figure out, is what I can't understand! It's pretty obvious to me. It's about growing older and learning that things aren't the way you expected them to be. When you're young all you want to do is get older, until the final realization hits you that it's SIMPLY not as great as it you thought it was. So in reality this song is saying that basically the river flows no matter whattttt you try to do...it flows on and on forever. everyone gets older and remembers what it was like to be young. Unfortunately, there are no more worlds of "magnets and miracles" when you get older, but it's wonderful to remember when there were those things. It's sad and wonderful all at the same time. I've been listening to P.Floyd for as long as I can remember...and that's a long long time...this song among others are their best...Roger waters of not, they've still got it. I've seen them many many times, with and without him....they're still great onstage. I only wish they could do a concert together again. Thanks for reading what I had to say...Peace and Love......Purple :o)

Yes-yes, this song resembles perfect the way I feel, For I am 17, And I've just entered a world where love is lust, where the sun gives you cancer, where your friends drift away, where burning hatred fills my heart, where people kill eachother, a world filled with horror, a world where money rules.
The real world.

WOW, this is one of the best songs from Pink Floyd!!!!!
this song remember me on the time when I was at school, 4 years ago.
every thing was perfect in that time.
now(4 years later) there is a important warehouse in the place where I live disapeerd!
and there is so much chanced in that 4 years.
When I heart this song I see in my self a film about that, first every thing was oke in the main streed, the wharehouse was open (it was called the V&D) the mainstreet was very bussy,
al other shops were open.
on the back ground I saw a dark tower with a bell.
then the Devission bell begun.....
the V&D is closed, the mainstreet wasn't bussy any more and al shops are closed, this time not in colour but black and white.
That was what I saw in that film.

This song is so powerful and it is crazy to think it's so new. Just because something isnt old doesnt mean it's not classic though, and i think this song can definately be called classic. Pink Floyd rocks my world.

Though I'm not as into Pink Floyd once Waters left the band, this song is one of their best. This is a great song about shattered hopes and dreams, something I can relate to. Life when you're young is so simple, so innocent; you want to grow up and have a happy and wonderful life. But as you grow up, you see the world for what it really is and you become disgusted, or disillusioned, or depressed.
It's such a shame that I'll never be able to see Floyd in concert, I'm way too young.

Seems like to me it means that when your young life looks so good. You dream of the future thinking its going to be so great. But you become and adult and nothing is innocent anymore. The grass was greener, the light was brighter, before ya wised up and seen how shitty life is. Its a bit of a sad song to me. Good song. Seems like theres a lot of dissapointed expressed in pink floyd songs.

PFs best song. The guitar solo near the end is just awesome.
Like many others I can't figure out what the song is about, but it doesn't matter - just enjoy it.

Geez, what a great song. And to think that it was from 1994, it's phenomenal. This one belongs up there with the all-time Floyd classics, I'm not ashamed to say it.
