Neighborhood #4 (Kettles) Lyrics

Send "Neighborhood #4 (Kettles)" Ringtone to your Cell

I am waiting 'til I don't know when,
'cause I'm sure it's gonna happen then.
Time keeps creeping through the neighborhood,
killing old folks, waking up babies just like we knew it would.

All the neighbors are starting up a fire,
burning all the old folks, the witches, and the liars.
My eyes are covered by the hands of my unborn kids,
but my heart keeps watching through the skin of my eyelids.

They say a watched pot won't ever boil,
well, I closed my eyes and nothing changed,
just some water getting hotter in the flames.

It's not a lover I want no more,
and it's not heaven I'm pining for,
but there's some spirit I used to know,
that's been drowned out by the radio.

They say a watched pot won't ever boil,
you can't raise a baby on motor oil,
just like a seed down in the soil, you gotta give it time.

I think it's about feeling empty inside and trying to bring back the meaning you once knew by trying to ignore the emptiness but it doesn't work because your heart still knows its empty. It just takes time.

I think it's about sitting around waiting for something to happen, without really knowing what that something is.

i think it's about knowing something's going to happen but not doing anything about it or not ebing able to but still getting torn apart when it does,

Nevermind, figured it out on my own.

That said, I agree with Daerin. The watched pot lines seem to imply that he's trying to distract himself from something negative -- if he doesn't pay attention to it, it'll pass quickly. Yet, no matter what he does, nothing seems to change.

The Arcade Fire is an amazing band. I just bought their album, can't wait for it to arrive.

Someone please explain the connections behind the four 'neighbourhood' songs. Are they meant to be an on-going story, or were they only named that way? Normally I'd figure it out on my own, but I'm feeling lazy, exhausted and curious. It's a bad mix.

beautiful lyrics. the first "watched pot" lines are so poetic. i get the impression that he sings about ignoring something bad, hoping it will go away, but inside in his heart knows its just as terrible.

sorry, probably sounds like im talking crap, i just love this album and i've only had it for 2 days (and i like the sound of my own voice :P)

All times are in Greenwich Mean Time.
