This song was written when he was in rehab. So, I believe he is saying hes trying to conquer what the drugs turned him into, aka the animal. So people saying he should leave the animal alone should re-think, unless they would rather have had him be a drug addict the rest of his life.

i know how you feel its fun, but should you really give in to your emotions like that? if it is that powerfull, it cant be totally its own. u had to have some experience or something that would have triggered your need for the animal inside you to take over

i dont know. if it is a physical animal as hes talking about, maybe. but, wat if, its a different kind of animal. a more mental/emotional animal. like, you could go out and kill some1 and go on w/ your life like nothing happened. or you start to see darkness, death and evil in everything, and not only do you see it, but you bring it out, encourage it. what do you do then? yea, you have to tame it, but how? its not that easy

Finally, a good philosophical argument. Why tame it? It will lash out at anything that wrongs it. In a just person, you get personas like the Punisher, Ghost Rider, etc. just without the cool superpowers. (In a sense one could argue that the personality in itself is a superpower.) On the other hand, untamed, it's impossible to live normally. But that's the problem with society in my perspective - if we weren't so tamed, we'd all be much better for it, because we'd root out everything we saw as "bad". Not to say everyone would agree on what that was, but the world, America especially, has become a shithole. Anything is better than that. Point being, you ARE an ANIMAL, like it or not, that's why I say let it out.

Because if you can't tame it, then you'll just end up hurting people. People that don't deserve to be hurt, people that care about you. Because a caged animal is VERY dangerous, especially if it escapes.

Think of it this way, Have you ever been so angry, so filled with hate, that your running on adrenalin, it takes over your mind, speeds up your heart, turns you numb, and sometimes you can think it through, but what if it was like that almost all the time, how would you cope. Eventually, your anger would lash out. It's not fun whe that happens.

I love this song, it's one almost anyone can identify with at one point or another.
