One Chance Lyrics

We have one chance.
One chance to get everything right.
We have one chance, one chance.
And if we're lucky we might.

My friends, my habits, my family,
they mean so much to me.
I just don't think that it's right.
I've seen so many ships sail in,
just to head back out again and go off sinking.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box in a cage.

Didn't mean to laugh, didn't know I had.
Didn't know the better part of what you said
cuz in your head you are not home.

Didn't get the joke. Didn't mean to poke another,
just to save myself
from some something something or another one.
Well walk home.

I'm just a box in a cage. I'm just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box in a cage.

I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.
I'm just a box in a cage.

We have one chance,
one chance to get everything right.
My friends, my habits, my family,
they mean so much to me.
I just don't think that it's right.
I've seen so many ships sail in,
just to head back out again and go off sinking.

Nice interpretation stoodhereonce. This song always seems to recall to me the author Sherwood Anderson's portrayal of the "grotesque" in his novel "Winesburg, Ohio." That is to say, individuals who put all of their stock in the occurrence of one event or action in order for their lives to become better - a problematic outlook (later utilized by authors such as Hemingway and Raymond Carver). In Brock's case, a formidable bulk of his songs deal with the fact that he feels figuratively "trapped" at times due to his notorious bouts with depression , alcohol abuse, social problems, etc.

Another great song with symbolic meaning true to the human condition. We often feel as though we only have one chance to get things right or else they will never work out. But truthfully, that isn't always the case. Sometimes I think we overload our minds with useless worry and this makes us feel as though if we don't get things done right, right now, they will never work out. 'I'm just a box, just a box in a cage.' I think this represents feeling as though we are trapped either within ourselves with these worries or we are trapped within the problems themselves. Being trapped in a box is small and compact and thats how you may feel if you are overloaded with worry over something, very small in a very big space. Being then put into a cage, you would become even more trapped by this thing. 'I've seen so many ships sail in, just to head back out again and go off sinking.' I think this represents one persons view from the outside of this 'trapped in a box' world. They see all these people who are overcoming these things and going off into the world and to them it's as though they are only asking for more. Just as a ship could potentially go out to sea and sink. It's like they feel as though they are protected by these worries and if they were to just overcome them, it would only bring more. Which coule potentially be the case, but thats life.

All times are in Greenwich Mean Time.
The time is now 03:51:02.
