To comment on the question about McCartney's bare feet, I will tell you what I heard. This goes along with the whole "Paul is dead" ordeal. If you're not aware of what that is, then grab a Beatles biography.
Anyway, what I heard was that this was just another one of the things they did to "hint" at this rumor that Paul was dead because they don't put shoes on a dead body during showings. Something like that.
As for this song, it really is part of the second side of Abbey Road which is really all these little songs that flow together. My favorite Beatles album.
To answer the barefoot question: I took a Beatles Walking Tour in London last year: the answer to that question: it was super-hot in London that day, and Paul's feet were hurting. Solution: take off the shoes!
