In my book, Bette Midler can do no wrong, when it comes to her vocal style and she's not a bad actress either.
I've been a professional musician, for 22 years and so I've seen and heard it all (just about) and this song lyricaly kicks ass and the melody ain't bad either. There is this quality to Bette's voice, comes through every time. Whether she is singing a ballad or a rocking out. Man, she can sing and phrase, the hell out of a tune.

Hey wabbitsgirl (or is that wabbit brain) we heard about yer damn boyfriend the first time. Nice spoof Punk Monkey. The movie this song was from took several years to come out, and was a thinly veiled, and very sanitized version of Janis Joplin's life. Bette is a rare exception to my aversion to musicians trying to act, she's been an actor that happened to sing from the beginning.
