David Crosby's account is even more remarkable. He said he handed Neil Young a newspaper with the Kent State headline. Young read it, immediately picked up a guitar, walked into a forest, and 30 minutes later came out with "Ohio".
Neil Young wrote the song but CSNY performed it. In Neil Young's cd set Decade, there are a few sententences he wrote on the song and he mentioned performing it as part of CSN. The song is found as part of CSNY collections.
My dad was a student at Kent state at the time of the shootings. He took me there and showed me where everything happened and I saw the bullet holes in some metal sculptures. He's showed me his yearbook with the pictures in it too. It's pretty sad.
