I agree with hanelline, this song isn't very good. Anyway, punk rockers didn't wear flowers in their hair - they dyed it weird colors or shaved it off. I don't think I EVER saw a punk rocker with flowers in her hair - unless, of course, you count this girl I saw in London in 1981: she had a rose tattoo on her scalp, barely visible beneath her bright purple crewcut!
I hope the parody version gets posted here ;-)

Love this song. It's nice to hear someone who doesn't feel the need to saturate the song with musical instruments. Also, as someone else already said, it's very easy to sing along with!! =)

"That time wasnt as much as a utopia as she makes out, there was war, in-equality, political unrest and an unstable society."
As opposed, of course, to now. Now we have our Iraq CONFLICT and equality for all straight rich Christian white men and bloggers who just love the way things are going.
Honestly.
She makes a point. Well. She does not say then is perfect. But now isn't, either, and isn't there some romance to the positive sides of a past you simply can't have?
That's what I get from this song, anyway. *shrugs*

get over the whole flowers in the hair part...it's like a metaphor/analogy or whatever....she's prolly referring to the fact that the two most politically and socially aware genres of music were both folk and punk, hence the "69 and '77 reference and the flowers in the punk rockers hair....get past the whole punk/flower thingy and listen to the actual song...she's got a friggin point and she makes it well

this song isn't great. we are creating a parody version...
and anyway, punk rockers didnt wear flowers in thier hair, they were based on rebelling.
That time wasnt as much as a utopia as she makes out, there was war, in-equality, political unrest and an unstable society. And anyway, society has probably improved since then, the life you lead determines how you live rather than the era. And if she wanted to be a punk rocker, surely she should be writing punk rock songs rather than this pop sell out rubbish. Its not as if there is much musical creativity, she can sing, but it seems too easy for her, as if she hasnt really put any effort in. She should be singing "i wish i was a hippy, hiding away from society, so i dont have to think about real issues in life, with flowers in my hair"
I wish I were a pastry chef with flour in my hair. adios. hanneline.

This is a really good song but...
Punk rockers never wore flowers in they're hair, half of them hardly had hair.
And punk wasnt really alive until the 80's.
Still, Catchy song.
