Can we at least agree that the line "Sounds of laughter shades of earth are ringing
Through my open views inviting and inciting me
" is really "...ringing through my open mind inciting and inviting me"?

What kinda comments do you guyz paste?
"Jai Guru Deva" means 'Victory be to the spiritual master', "OM" simply means PEACE.
Now do you guyz understand.
This song was dedicated by Beatles to the great Sitar Maestro from India-Pandit Ravishankar(Also the father of Norah Jones, the Grammy winner and Anoushka, herself a great Sitar player).
The Beatles(especially George Harrison) considered Ravishankar to be their Guru Deva (spiritual master).
Anywayz like the song suggests-Om (Peace) to even the ignorant ones!

Uh, get your shit right before you tell everyone else they're wrong. The refrain "Jai Guru Deva Um" is a mantra intended to lull the mind into a higher consciousness. The words are in Sanskrit, and they mean "I give thanks to Guru Dev," who was the teacher of The Maharishi. The "Om" at the end is the drawn out "oooohm" used in meditation to relate to the natural vibration of the universe.

I dont know why, but this is my favorit Beatles song. I mean, you have "A Beatles song" then you have this. Its not as well noun as Let it be, or Hard Days night, but hell its just as good. I don't know, I just think its mystical.

I love this song...my parents used to always blast Beatle's music when I was a kid so I've always love them...and even though I'm 18, I recognize good music when I hear it.

I'm 55, and I grew up in the 60s with The Beatles as the songs were being created. It was different. More so than anything that came before, and, I believe, anything that has come since. We throw the term "Genius" around easily when we reference The Beatles music, Johnny Lennon in particular. But I believe thier music was genius, as was Lennon...in truest sense of the word.
While McCartney was no small talent, his best work ever was done was as a Beatle, and just after on his two solo attemps.
Paul needed John's insight and depth, his willingness to risk, and his anger at how ignorant the world can be...to blend with his knack for a pretty melody "love song" inclination.
Together, with George, they turned out magical, mystical melodies that will stand as strongly in 20 years as they did in the 60s.
Across The Universe is simply a wonderful, whimsical "burp" to John Lennon. I'd like to think he didn't labor at this remarkable piece. It just fell out of his ability to reach down and from heart & soul put words, and a melody together that spoke to us, and many times for us.
As Don Mclean wrote in "Vincent", of Van Gogh, "But I could have told you "John"...this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you."
Sorry for being so long winded.
Rest In Peace John Lennon.

The Beatles version is definitely a classic and better in my opinion, but I happen to like Fiona's version as well...
I don't know what possessed those idiots to fuck up this beautiful song during the Grammy Awards.
Note to Alicia Keyes...not EVERYTHING is a gospel song...

I can't believe how this song was ruined on the Grammy's...... There was no need to change the lyrics. If anyone with half a brain would just listen to the lyrics, John says 3 times in the second chorus: "Nothing's gonna CHAIN my world." MUCH MORE APPROPRIATE!!!!

lennon did write it by himself and i'm definitely a true beatles fan. he was lying in bed and these lyrics just came to him, i could spend years writing a song and not come close to this.they trully were musicalgeniuses, all 4 of them.
