To me.. this sounds like the breakup im going through. And i relate completly
The guy screwed up..( i cheated..)And now that he see's he could lose her forever and they still love each other he's trying to get her to forgive him so they can be together again. And she wants to get back with him but cant because she no longer trusts him. And at times it seems it may work out, but she cant let that happen. So she tells him she loves him still and that it may work but she's holding back still. ( she cant give him a straight answer) And he is torn apart because she is the only love he knows and he ( I )cant be without her and he cant find away to get her back. (crown of love is not upon me.) He seems to be falling more in love with her (love is growing still the same like cancer) while she wants to move on. And he knows she does and it kills him because he cant get her back. And finally she tells him she doesnt love him anymore the same way and doesnt want to be with him and now all he has is old memories. (flowers on the grave of our old love./ since you gave me a straight answer.) But he still wants her back because he only loves her..
The ending breakdown i think means he moves on.

Ok, time for everyone to hate me. I love Arcade Fire but to me this reminds me too much of Bright Eyes. And I have to admit I'm not the biggest Bright Eyes fan. I think if you listen to this and songs like False Advertising you'll see what I mean. It's not just the heavy strings it's also the voice quality. I think the songwriting here is better and like everyone says, the ending is awesome

okay... so does anyone else think maybe the ending signifies that hes moving on? i mean, it's like a whole different mood and it's leaving the sentiments of the song behind.

i created this account just so i could post on arcade fire (they rock!!!!!!), but anyway, i love this song, the ending is great and i don't know how anyone could disagree with it, it puts a fast beat onto a slower song and leads it out

Wow..the arcade fire are great, I came accross it looking through my sisters music collection and added them to my Mp3. Crown of love was the first song I heard and I melted. They have their own sound. They sound nothing like polyphonic spree daerin....Well I don't think so.

Personally, I think the ending works really well. It sort of reminds me of a showtune that would, at that point, turn into some sort of grandiose dance number to finish with. But that's just my opinion...

Are you kidding, the end of Crown of Love makes the song! Ity's not even vaguely like disco and kind of emphasises the whole emotional ordeal of the song. If you want typical slow love songs then The Arcade are not your band, they specialise in the unusual.

Ha...my first comment. Me, being an Arcade Fire fan, belives that this is on of the best songs on the album. It sounds like an original love song. I think the only problem with it is the ending. Crown of love would of bin perfect if it wasen't for the reatarded disco ending, and it didn't need to be a build up song, Funeral as enough of them.
