War Lyrics

Send "War" Ringtone to your Cell

War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again, y'all

War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

Ohhh, war, I despise
Because it means destruction
Of innocent lives

War means tears
To thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
And lose their lives

I said, war, huh
Good God, y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, war-huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, it's got one friend
That's the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away

Ooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me

War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way

Ooooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
You tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it

War, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it
Nothing

though inspired by this song, i must say gop has a point war sucks big floppy donkey dick, but at times war is needed. a world free of war would be soft and over populated and if hostile life from other planets does exist and they want to take earth the way white people did africa 200-500 years ago we would be fucked, oh the hostiles might even look at us as a food source. we need war to keep our combat skills strong, i think martial arts should even be taught in public schools, mind you honor and disappline should be re-enforced with martial arts at all times. disappline is something americans need and clearly lack, if americans had disappline we would have less crime, but along with disappline we need true equality and we will never have that because people will never learn to act right.

jeez, look at you people, what in the effing world is wrong with hating war?nothing, some soldiers even hate war, they only do because they have to and feel the need to fight for their contry, and theres nothing wrong with tht ether, but the only thing Mr. Starr was saying was that some people love war and think its a good thing, and he's just saying it isn't.

"they were both wars against communists"

Someone REALLY needs to start analyzing history from ALL point of views.
teetotaller_tom 06/10/2005 21:19:37
Good God!!! It's just a damn song!

Who cares what its political undertones are? As long as it stands up to the test of time and continues to bring joy to people, does it really matter???

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I couldn't give a shit if this song promoted dumping toxic waste next to schools, you guys aren't actually paying attention to the music but are just using the lyrics to back up your dumbass opinions that (from the looks of things) no-one cares about. All the song-writter is doing is jumping on the anti-war bandwagon of the 70s and Edwin Starr probably doesn't give a damn anyway. If he really was in the Korean War, he shouldn't have had a problem the Vietnam conflict as they were both wars against communists and both were started in near identical ways.

If you want serious political undertones, go watch a Michael Moore movie!

Wow, you're right. By slandering me you have definitely shown that you're of higher intelligence and are clearly correct. You are an example of exactly what is wrong with the anti-war movement as it stands today. There are decent ways to voice your opinion and there are other ways (childish ranting, etc..). If you truly do believe that all war is bad, then by all means try to influence people... but don't proceed like you have.

For your information, I love rock n' roll and I am not a jesuslander (although I guess that's a 'cool' term that you and your friends throw around). I'm just a conservative.

GOP, 'morally sound'? What the fuck are you talking about? Edwin Starr was a Korean War vet. People in Iraq are far less safe than when Saddam was in power. I think the real problem here is that you are a full on douchebag. Morally sound, Laugh My Fucking Ass Off, you're a jesuslander, now shut the fuck up, turn off your computer, and go listen to some 'inspirational music' and leave the rock n roll for those of us with measurable IQ's. I'm sure your minister wouldn't approve of you using the internet anyway. Penis vagina.

I'm not trying to oppress anyone. I'm just saying that this song is a trashy song for the anti-war crowd. To not accept any war is a stupid and childish set of values. Yeah, war sucks but it CAN be a good thing. If you can look me in the eyes and tell me that Hussein was a benevelont leader that didn't threaten the world's security, I'd have to laugh at how disconnected you are from the real world. The same type of people claimed Hitler wasn't a threat to world security in 1935.
sirrushnephilim 08/10/2004 00:45:15
War. What is it good for? what a great and true song. and you know what FUCK YOU GOP. quit trying to oppress us with your big buissness republican ways. we're all gonna stick it to the man. thats right fuck you buddy.

But he doesn't say *war that doesn't have a point* is bad, he says *all* war is bad.

"They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord, there's just got to be a better way"

Even fighting for one's freedom isn't acceptable apparently.
**CoUrTz** 19/02/2004 08:31:59
GOP, this song was written during the Vietnam war. The civil war had a point, the Vietnam one didn't.

I think that the comments below about forcing president Bush and Prime Minister Blair to listen to this horribly done song are ridiculous. I don't think Edwin Starr would disagree that war was obviously a good thing for himself. I doubt he'd like to be working on a whiteman's plantation and serving southern belles tea. This song is nothing more than a horribly contrived piece of an individual with a corrupt and hypocritical policy. Try listening to the "One Tin Soldier" song if you actually want to hear a reasoned and morally-sound song, not this shit.
dlaske 29/04/2003 20:10:10
Get a life...it was a song...an item for entertainment. Why always does something have to be blown out of proportion to justify pathetic political views?
Mr X 07/04/2003 15:27:32
Edwin Starr has died, but the song 'War' will always live on!

X!

This was one of the first for-real kick-ass anti-war songs that had grit and spelled out exactly the way war destroys people and their families, and who truly benefits from it. This song could hold up right now, if re-released!
This song needs to be heard in 2003, by all the war mongers blowing smoke up our butts!...

Bush and Blair should be forced to listen to this song until they admit that what they're planning is wrong and will only result in the deaths of thousands of innocent lives
