Guess someone saw the movie or the videoclip and jump into conclusions. "The Wall" movie actually has a scene of children beeing treated as clones because that's what it looked like the schools back in those days wanted. In fact the song is about how repressive teachers where back then in the uk (and many other parts of the world) with the strict rules and repressing teaching...

uhh...metal-links, i dont think this song has anything to do with mass producing clones mate lol. i'm pretty sure its just him explaining what his school was like and how the teachers and whatnot were a "brick" in his little wall that he kept between himself and society. it doesnt say anything about creating mindless zombies or whatever you were thinking back there

Not ONE - not a single ONE of u got the meaning right.
This song is a strong criticism of the education system that's been churning out thousands of nauseatingly "educated" robots over and over again for devil-knows how long.
It says -screw the propaganda thru' education that's been responsible for the 2 World Wars, hostility, the hatred.
It says -screw the system that's taught us nothing.. instead it keeps producing more and more similar minded freaks- trained to believe rather than discover- so similar that they are like bricks in a wall.
We're the bloody bricks in the Wall.

I use to think this song was about how we are all bricks in the wall of society. But then later I saw the movie and realized the song was actually about a metaphorical wall in this insane man's head that kept him socially inapt from everyone else. Either way though is a really cool idea. Pink Floyd's my 3rd favorite band ever. 1 and 2 of course are The Beatles and Jimi Hendrix. Well don't really know what else to say.... wait yes I do... PINK FLOYD FUCKIN ROCKS!!!!!

I do not hesitate to say that Mischief, you are a MORON! This song has absolutely nothing to do with African colonies. And to the rest of you who are wondering what the song "really" about, it is about exactly what it says it's about. It isn't saying that we should all be brain-dead layabouts, rather it is a condemnation of the school system and those who run it. The declaration is against tyrannical EDUCATORS and their sadistic methods of control, and against the uniformity demanded of students.

Ok, the lead singer for pink floyd had a nervous breakdown and the whole album is about his ordeal. It had nothing to do with colonies in africa i have no idea where you got that one from boy.

I just got a few random corrections. In both verses, both times "all in all its just another brick in the wall" is actually you're, not its. And also, when the kids are chanting, they say "leave us kids alone" not "leave them kids alone" i know it don't really matter, but thats whats right. Oh, and Pink Floyd kickass!!!

Actually this song is about a English colony in Africa where the English were trying to get the natives to to leran English and rule thier land. The natives ( I can't remember which country it was) are trying to get the English to leave. Overall, all four (yes there are four) parts are totally awesome. Pink Floyd Rocks!

with the exception of bhas and free bird. you are all stupid. if you have not watched and understood the movie, dont even bother throwing your two cents worth in. because you make yourself look like a dumb ass. i own both the album and the movie. and many other of his albums. school rules. it is very important. roger knows this.

bhas is right. This song isn't about giving up on education and saying screw this, the songs says that school can be rough but that education is a hurdle thats worth overcoming. Education is a brick in the wall of opposition but everyone must struggle on.

The problem is that the message was totally misunderstood. It has to be the ultimate Pink Floyd irony, in a career of ironies, that the last and only #1 hit would become an anthem for people who had no clue what the band really intended. Roger's ungrammatical chorus proves how badly an education is needed. The sad irony here is that Roger was saying that, at the very time in his life when he most needed a safe haven in which to feel accepted and cared for, it only took one mean teacher to add more bricks to his wall.

Yes the accents are English, well to be precise Essex/London/Croydon. It's refered to as a common accent, and represents a lower class, therefore less educated. How do I know this, well being English helps!
Pink Floyd rocks, really interesting and deep stuff.
