Light My Way Lyrics
(written by: Chris Cornell)

In my hour of need
On a sea of gray
On my knees I pray to you
Help me find the dawn
Of the dying day
Chorus
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
A bullet is a man
From time to time he strays
I compare my life to this
To this I relate
And I'm willing
To listen to your answers
And I'm not afraid
To tell you I need you today
Chorus
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
So when I'm lost
Or I'm tired and depraved
Or when my high bullet mind
Goes astray won't you light my way
Don't save it for another day
Don't save it for another day
Hey
Don't save it for another day
Hey
Don't save it for another day
Hey
Don't save it for another day
Hey
Don't save it for another day
Chorus
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way
Won't you light my way

He said, in 1996, when asked if he believed in God:
"No, because the interpretation of what God -- or a god -- is, I wouldn't have. I don't see some white, grey-haired old man sitting on a throne throwing lightning bolts at us when we least expect it."
Not only is that not an athiest position, but that was, what, 7 years before he wrote this song?

Hi Pez, let me get back to you on the correct philosopher later...
As far as Chris Cornell being an atheist is concerned... I had read an interview where he was asked if he believed in god, and he replied that he didn't.
The following interview is an interesting read also:

I highly doubt Chris is a complete athiest. I don't know you could read these lyrics without agreeing that it's an appeal to some higher power.
And Yogiboo, I don't think Marx ever said that. If he did, it would be completely unrelated to any of the topics he focuses on in his writings (labor power, socioeconomic class struggles/relationships/political parties, etc.). If you could show me your 'research' as to why you are so certain he's an athiest, I'd appreciate it.

evbr787, maybe that's his way of complaining about christianity playing a big role in people's lives... Some philosopher (was it Marx?) once said that great art critizes society and tries to induce change. And Audioslave sure has great music!

lol. well. id just like to say that for an atheist, chris seems to spend a whole lot of time talking about god. if he doesnt believe, why worry about it so much eh?

Go on and save yourself - take it out on me.
You know what I say??.....Go to a fucking concert and SEE it for yourself. Bible not included.
HA!! yea.......

If anyone's done their research, Chris Cornell is an atheist. These songs certainly have references to Christianity, but there's a hint of sarcasm to all the seemingly blatant "Save me, God!" messages. I'm pretty sure CC would be grinning if he saw how many religious people fell for this - hook, line and sinker. Plus, it makes him a richer man.

This is a song that just shines deeper meaning. Like how can this not be a cry for help? This song is like about Chris just crying out for help from God im guessing. Like read this and you will see it.

Another one of Audioslaves most awesome songs. It ROCKS so hard and, with a message so powerful. I love Audioslave so much. If you read all the comments on most of their songs, I am there. I am audiocher
