Bukowski Lyrics

(written by: Brock/Modest Mouse)

Woke up this morning and it seemed to me,
that every night turns out to be
A little more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?
God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

Well we sat on the edge of the river,
the crowd screamed, "Sacrifice the liver!"
If God takes life, he's an Indian giver.
So tell me now why, you'll tell me never.
Who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Well see what you wanna see. You should see it all.
Well take what you want from me. You deserve it all.
Nine times out of ten our hearts just get dissolved.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.

But one time out of ten, everything is perfect for us all.
Well I want a better place or just a better way to fall.
Here we go!

If God controls the land and disease,
keeps a watchful eye on me,
If he's really so damn mighty,
my problem is I can't see,
well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?
Well who would wanna be?
Who would wanna be such a control freak?

Evil home stereo, what good songs do you know?
Evil me, oh yeah I know, what good curves can you throw?

Well all that icing and all that cake,
I can't make it to your wedding, but I'm sure I'll be at your wake.
You were talk, talk, talk, talkin' in circles that day,
when you get to the point make sure that I'm still awake, OK?

Went to bed and didn't see
why every day turns out to be
a little bit more like Bukowski.
And yeah, I know he's a pretty good read.
But God who'd wanna be?
God who'd wanna be such an asshole?

this is definetly one of my favorite modest mouse songs... i always think its wierd (in a mad crazy awesome sort of way) that they have so many songs about death and god and life... what makes modest mouse AMAZING is their lyrics and their orignal views on life... fucking awesome...

i remebered the first time i heard this song: i was laying down going to sleep with my headphones and i was in a hotel room....well this line came up "the crowd screamed, "Sacrifice the liver!" and that little part where someone in the background Sacrifice the liver...i remebered i jumped up and i thought it was someone outside like screaming....anyways i just remebered going back to bed and thinking..that is crazy......oo yeah and the last part where it says "I fucked up the last line" i just think that is hilarious

The new CD is worth buying, but The Moon & Antarctica is still my favorite.

Great song.

yeah The Moon & Antarctica is definitely one of their better albums, my personal favorite anyway... But still this is a great song that and empty tears, if it gets the people you dont like to actually think, then whats the harm in them listening to it and having Issac make money off of it? heh

I have heard other Modest Mouse... I never said I didn't and I never said I liked this better. My favorite Modest Mouse song is "doin the cockroach" and "ballroom blitz" and neither of them are on this cd, and don't assume I haven't heard any more of their old stuff.

yes,he's talking bout THAT bukowski.this modest mouse cd is good, and its everyones favorite that never listened to them before, but you kids need to hear moon and antartica and their other cd's because the new one sucks (its good) but sucks compared to the others.
