A song that makes a case (or forces it down one's throat?) for family values, or common sense, or stating the obvious. Imagine that. "Fathers, be good to your daughters" - what are you going to say to that, "Uh, no?"
Actually, with this shmaltzy, sappy drivel, I get the feeling that Hans is just pandering to all the Jessica Simpsons out there (kooky father and all) just to get into their wallets and pants. And the half sung, half whispered lyrics make it sound like he's got a hard boiled egg yolk stuck in his throat. Touching.

John Mayer is one of today's better singer/songwriters. This song and "Waiting for the World to Change" are definately thought-provoking songs... very deep and appreciated.

I just want to say... This song hits the nail on the head as far as fathers & daughters relationships. I don't care what anyone else thinks. My father is the reason I am the person I am today & he is no longer here for me to tell that to. It hurts horribly to lose a parent. This song is one that I can listen to & smile about all the wonderful things he did for me all my life. It makes me cry because he is no longer here with me & I have a huge hole in my life because of it. Cherish your parents, cherish your children, because you never know when life will take them from you.

john mayer stinks. when you hear him live in concert- i won two free tickets to dance with him on stage-anyway- he's really not that good. i like other people a lot better than him. o well. you all should research Whitney Houston- Run to you. now she is an amazing singer. anyway again- this song is ok i sorta think its lame. o well. i feel sorry for the girl below at the bottom of this page- her dad walked out on her- i can't even imagine what it would be like if my dad left. we are best friends. i love you dad!!!

I heard this song last week at Karaoke and it hit some really sore spots for me because of the way that my mother and have lost contact since she divorced my father and left us kids high and dry about 30 years ago. I have tried very hard to jump start the relationship that I lost with my mother all those long years ago to no avail. I still hold some hope that it will happen someday before either of us die. I also wanted to learn this song so that I can sing it as well since it meant so much to me. I happened to start reading the comments and then felt compelled to write this as well. This is a beutiful song and reminded me of the best friend I just lost as well as my mother and the loss that I feel because of our lack of a relationship. I am so glad to see that I was not the only one that felt this way. Perhaps someday we will all be able to get some closure. It makes me feel at least a little better knowing that I am not alone in these feelings. The only real difference is that I am a male speaking of my mother and not a female. Whereas you are women talking about your fathers. I just wantted to remind you that males go through the same things as well for about the same reasons.

I heard this song and immidiatly thought about my girl friend. I always try to be there for her and everything, but her father mistreats her makeing it hard for me to help her. This song is a very touching song that has a nice message that I just love. Its about time somone made a song like this. You could call me nieve sense I'm 15, But i know i love my girlfriend and i wish her parents would treat her the way she deserves to be treated.
