American Soldier Lyrics

Send "American Soldier" Ringtone to your Cell

I'm just trying to be a father,
Raise a daughter and a son,
Be a lover to their mother,
Everything to everyone.
Up and at 'em bright and early,
I'm all business in my suit,
Yeah,I'm dressed up for success,
from my head down to my boots.
I don't do it for money
there's bills that I can't pay.
I don't do it for the glory,
I just do it anyway.
Providing for our future's my responsibility,
Yeah I'm real good under pressure,
being all that I can be.

And I can't call in sick on Mondays
when the weekends been too strong,
I just work straight through the holidays,
And sometimes all night long.
You can bet that I stand ready
when the wolf growls at the door,
Hey, I'm solid, hey I'm steady,
hey I'm true down to the core.

And I will always do my duty,
no matter what the price,
I've counted up the cost,
I know the sacrifice.
Oh, and I don't want to die for you,
But if dyin's asked of me,
I'll bear that cross with honor,
'Cause freedom don't come free.

I'm an American soldier, an American,
Beside my brothers and my sisters
I will proudly take a stand,
When liberty's in jeopardy
I will always do what's right,
I'm out here on the front lines,
So you can sleep in peace tonight.
American soldier, I'm an American,

American Soldier,
An American

in response to "bush may be an idiot but because he is our president we have to listen to him"

Yeah, and people listened to Hitler too, because he was their leader. And now millions of Jews are dead. 0_0

I love this song!
My Uncle is a retired Marine and my 17 year old cousin is in boot camp as I type this. He has written me a letter, and he's telling me all about the army, and it's scary! Right now he's at bootcamp and he said that when he gets back they'll probably send him to Iraq, he says hes excited, and ready to go. He loves this country! My other cousin is in National Guards and has to go to Egypt on his birthday, and I'm scared for both of them! My cousin, who's 17 said that a guy died at bootcamp from dehydration and heat stroke, that could have been my cousin, and I'm still worried about him, if anything ever happens to my cousin, i promise i will never get over it, I love my cousin so much and O could not bear 2 lose him!But plz pray for him and every1 else in the service.
God Bless America

As for a lot of you guys these song has a special meaning to a lot of people. Including me of course. It's a total tearjerker and to be honest I couldn't listen to it for a long time when my fiance had to leave for Iraq. Allthough he is not fighting on the frontlines I'm worried about him everyday. But when I listen to this song now it makes me proud of him and of all the others beside him. Lets all together hope for their safe return.

Everytime I hear this song it makes me think of all thoes who put their Lives on the line so we can be free and their Families. I would also like to take this time to wish all those overseas a safe return and to tell the families with loves ones in the armed services that we are all thinking of you also!

I made a long post on "COURTESY OF THE RED, WHITE AND BLUE" and so I won't bore anyone twice. (I hope) My youngest son will be deployed to Iraq 1-10-05. He will be 2 days short of being 21. When he graduated high school, he got a job at a 'home' for severely disabled children and loved it. Then came 9-11. Both of my son's have a very strong love and respect for their flag and country. It was no surprise when the youngest wanted to join the Army. He leaves a wife, a 3 year old, and one on the way. They didn't marry till this year and this was the BRIDE/GROOM song they chose to dance to. I have been a single Mom to them for about 20 years and so they have come to expect certain tings from me ... like being tough in tough times for them. Having brought his laptop with him from Fort Benning Georgia to our PA. home, he began playing downloaded songs for me to listen to. You know, it's pretty difficult sitting here tonight and maintaining that strong exterior as my son tells me which songs touch his heart and what to play at his funeral if anything happens. Tough telling me to contact a family member (pastor) that he loves to do the service ... tough listening to him talk about the will he made out. And all the while, showing him the strong side he has come to expect from me. This song, of course, was the first one he chose to play. And 'Courtesy of ...' was another. I feel strongly that although the position he will be in will be in the heat of things, that he will be fine. But more than anything, I have always been proud of my sons for their accomplishments and the men they have become, but I am also proud of him for his choice. These men and women who are going over there volunteered for this, knew what they were getting into, and felt it was time to take care of the bullies before they take care of us. I love this song .. I really like the other one too! Good job, Toby.

This song really hits home. My youngest sister is married to a Marine. Because things are worse in Iraq they need more men and now he is going to be deployed there in a few months. All we can do is pray and hope that all of this wil be over soon and not turn into another Vietnam War. Love all of Toby's music.

I have a friend who was in Desert Storm and retired from the military...he recently told me that he'd signed up for Army Reserves...and due to his prior combat experience, he's on the top of the list to go when he's needed. I admit I was really upset...and just kept wondering (selfishly, I admit) what would make him want to do that. The day after he told me, I was in my car going to work and "American Soldier" came on the radio. It brought tears to my eyes...made me realize that being a soldier is his heart....he's doing it because he wants to, not because he feels obligated...I am so greatful for this song!!! It has really helped me!! :D
ArmyWife 03/02/2004 15:47:10
This song really helps me alot with my husband not being here. Every time I hear it my heart swells with pride. I am so proud of him and every American soldier out there. God bless them all.
