The Only Living Boy in New York Lyrics

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your part'll go fine.
Fly down to Mexico.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-n-da-da and here I am,
The only living boy in New York.

I get the news I need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report.
Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile.
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da here I am
The only living boy in New York

Half of the time we're gone but we don't know where,
And we don't know here.

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know you've been eager to fly now.
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine
Da-n-da-da-n-da-da-n-da-da
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in New York,
The only living boy in New York.

this has always been one of my favourite art&paul songs, right up there with bridge and america. zach braff used it so beautifully in garden state that i fell completely in love with it all over again. with that scene, in the rain, with the crystal harmony, it feels clean and shiny and hopeful. it's just amazing.

It's a song Paul Simon wrote, addressed to Art (who was Tom back in the early days of tom and jerry) who was in Mexico shooting Catch-22. He's supporting him, even though it took him away from Simon and Garfunkel and made it harder for them to make the Bridge Album. Art doesn't even sing it; he's only in the background.

Normally cover versions detract rather than add to the life of a song, but Everyone But The Girl did a version of this that can only be described as ethereal. They kept true to the harmony, but it is mixed such that the harmony is dominant over the melody, giving a wonderfully surreal soundscape.

Do seek it out.

Mellow City.

This song is one of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs. I love the live "I get all the news I need on the Weather Report." Carefree, happy, -- reminds me of smoking up on the top of a mountain.

All times are in Greenwich Mean Time.
The time is now 00:39:11.
