Octopus's Garden Lyrics

Send "Octopus's Garden" Ringtone to your Cell

I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade
He'd let us in, knows where we've been
In his octopus' garden in the shade

I'd ask my friends to come and see
An octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus' garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can't be found
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they're happy and they're safe
(Happy and they're safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I'd like to be under the sea
In an octopus' garden with you.

This is my favorite song but my friend makes fun of it because of the word garden. He says things like, "What kind of vegtables do octopusses grow?" and other stupid things like that. We're in 5th grade and he's already learned to be a perfect jerk.

i love the beatles soooo much. they are the inspiration behind every peise of art work iv created in the past few years. they have got to be, by far, the best band in the history of the world. they are musical geniuses. tho i'v always been partial to john, ringo really is talented and dosent get the credit he deserves.

The idea for the song came about when Ringo was on a boating trip with his family in Sardinia in 1968. He was offered an octopus lunch, but turned it down. Then the boat's captain told him about how octopuses travel along the sea bed picking up stones and shiny objects with which to build gardens. he said that hearing about octopuses spending their days collecting shiny objects at the bottom of the sea was one of the happiest things he had heard. Wanting to create a song about it, well... he decided to write this song.

The Beatles are my favorite band EVA! I love this song cuz it kind of gives you a good little feeling :p I'm also stuck in the '60s myself. I love everything about that time. Just the freedoms everyone could enjoy, that now, we would never get away with. My dad was a hippy back in the day, and he tells me how things were back then. I guess I'm kind of a hippy myself, my favorite bands are The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and stuff of the sort. Well Jenny, you need to e-mail me.

This is a really cool song. I used to think it was just whimsical nonsense, but now I see a message in it. "Oh, what joy/for every and boy/knowing they're happy and they're safe."
To me, this is Ringo's way of saying that the only way to be happy and safe is to escape to your own little world--his happens to be an octopus's garden.

Oh my god! I totally didn't know this was a Beatles song until I bought their CD! I remember hearing it on my Raffy tapes when I was like, three and I loved it to death! Ringo does it even better! YAY! Go Beatles!

By the way Ringo Starr, I think you are very good looking! Even if no one else does! But I'm sure loads of people do. :-)

This is a bloody brilliant song! I can't think why anyone wouldn't like it, and I think Ringo is good at singing this song!

I'm glad to see that someone else thinks that Disney ripped this song off for their "Little Mermaid" movie ... I thought that ever since I first heard this song ...

I love this song. So sureal. I love that Ringo sings it as well.
Namdac_87 17/01/2004 03:32:32
Beatles are so great, only they can get away with writing a song like this and make it work
I love it
For some harder great beatles songs get Helter Skelter and Revolution
The Guru 17/01/2004 03:06:54
This song is a great one. No one like the Beatles can write a song as if it were a story. Nothing can beat the best!
TonySimps 03/03/2003 17:23:17
I think Disney rips off this song with their "Under the Sea" number from "Little Mermaid".

All times are in Greenwich Mean Time.
The time is now 12:25:51.
