The Ramones never sang this song. It was written by Ed Cobb and preformed by Gloria Jones in the 60's. It has since been covered by Soft Cell, BIlly Idol, Marilyn Manson and the Pussycat Dolls just to name a few.

Bruno 64:
I really do not understand the way you write English. I spent more than 15 years to learn, and actually I have to do my personal best everydays to understand.
About your comments, honestly I don't know what you really mean, if you could have a little consideration in your grammar, you would have been understood by yourself. But it's not. All I have been telling everybody, is that, personally, I love Tainted Love's version by Softcell. That's it. I don't understand why you are upset ...is there something wrong with you???????
And about if I or I don't post a comment, let me tell you, dude, that's not your business anyway.
I am totally free to make a post. Nobody told to not to do that. And also I know -and thanks to God- you are not Leos Lyric's owner. If that, be sure I will never post anything here.
Finally, cool your engines, buddie, and get fun...life is very short to piss yourself up.
My best regards for you....and everybody at Leo's Network.

Well if you're so above it all whenit come sto comments, whya re you posting here in the first place?
I don't give a rat's ass who did it first, the version I and most other people know best, is the Soft Cell version.
Oh, and a bif STFU to Rhiannon who ripped the entire song off for her shitty SOS song.

regarding the "polemic" situation about, i would like to add this: everyone has the right to choose who is or who was the best "tainted love" singer.
There is place for everybody. NO reason to fight and to beat around the bush in useless comments. Period.
My best regards for Leo's Community.

The only versions I've heard are those by Soft Cell and Marilyn Manson. I like them both; I'd happily give just about anyone else's version a listen though.
I'm an 80's kid, so I remember Soft Cell's version from then, and I've always loved it. I'm not saying "it's the best" or "the coolest ever" or any of that rot -- I am saying that it's a very fond memory and a favorite song. I like to crank this one up in the car and sing along.
I'm not a big Manson fan, but there are certain songs of his that I really like. His cover of this song is one of them. It's dark and it's creepy and it's got major atmosphere -- and let's face it, this is not a song about a happy relationship. It was kinda dark and creepy to begin with. Having someone come along and do a brilliant job of highlighting that fact was just awesome to hear. I like to crank this one up in the car, too.

Soft Cell made it famous so methinks we should be praising them instead of whoever penned the words originally. Plus, Soft Cell rocks!! And leave Manson alone, he is a genius. The DJ played it at our dance last night among all the rappy shit and I was SCREAMING the words because I knew the DJ had an ounce of good taste.

Oh boy. Long story short, Gloria Jones did it first. Every version ive heard is incredible (exception being manson, sorry)and gives justice to the lyrics of the song.Ramones were second in line, then soft cell and i really dont know the next few but it think manson is the newest.
By, the way, GET A LIFE PEOPLE! STOP ARGUING OVER THE FUCKING INTERNET! ITS A SONG!

Oh my...
Tainted love is Originally written by the Ramones and beleive you me, no one has yet to beat them. Everytime this song has been remade I shudder. No one can do a song better then who ever has originally written it. Therfore; The version of this song that has so far been the best will never be remade better. And thats that.

This song picked up the Top Chart in England on July 25, 1981. It was broadcasted in USA in 1982 and of course, also reached the American Top 40 approximately in June 1982. What a disgusting cover was made by that scum bag called(?) Marylin Manson. His cover is extremely awful, no point of comparison with Soft Cell, one of the best Techno Bands of UK.

Hey all wanted to say that the lyrics for this song is incomplete! There is an extended version of Tainted Love by Soft Cell. Best part of the song in my opinion.
Baby, baby, where did our love go?
Ah don’t you leave me, don’t you leave me no more.
I’ve got this burning yearning, yearning, yearning feeling inside me…
ooo deep inside me…and it’s hurts so bad.
You came into my life, so tenderly with a burning love that stings like a bee.
And now that I’m surrendered
so helplessly
you know I believe
you wanna leave me.
oh baby baby where did our love go? Oh don’t you leave me, don’t you leave me no more.

thanx for the lyrics. now for all you hardcore fans of this album....by the way the title is called" non stop erotic cabaret" i will be posting every song from this album and "the art of falling apart" another awesome album. I was a Mod in San Diego California and graduated in 1983. Anybody who listened to this band as more than the "Tainted Love" one hit wonders can appreciate how cool this band was. Anybody who knows this song from Commercials or movies, well I forgive you for mocking me in High School.... oh yeah New wave is not oldies!!!!

Gloria Jones, wife of T Rex singer Marc Bolan. originally did this song in 1964. And it was originally a soul song.
