You guys, this song is not meant to be taken literally. It isn't about people who are physically short- it's about people with small minds. If you note that Newman says, "Short people are just the same as you and I/ (fools such as I)/all men are brothers until the day they die" which says that all men are equal, connected, and can act as fools.

"Short" refers to small, closed minds. Symbolism such as "platform shoes" (perhaps referring to how people sometimes feel the need to stand on their own soapboxs) is employed to prove a point through humor.

So no, this song is not a stab at those who are space-efficient. Like many songs, it uses humor and symbolism to prove an important point.

P.S. I LOVE this song.

I love short people. This song reminds me of The Tim. The Tim is short, but we love him oh-so-much and we respect him because if we don't he beats us up. Like he did Spencer. I love short people....

This song is so funny. It's so stupid that people take this song seriously. I'm only 5'1 and I love this song. The song is about how judgemental people are, and people really think it's dissing short people. That's pretty stupid. I think it's hilarious that people made them take it off the radio stations. It's unbelievable to me... I find it hilarious that people are that stupid.
